This study was carried out between May and August 2023 by the Pure Earth Indonesia Foundation in collaboration with the Occupational and Environmental Health Research Center, IMERI, Faculty of Medicine, and the University of Indonesia.
The 5 study locations are Cinangka Village, Bogor Regency; Pesarean Village, Tegal Regency; Kadu Jaya Village, Tangerang Regency; Dupak & Dukuh Wall District in Surabaya City; and Cinangneng Village in Bogor Regency, which was determined as the control area for this study. The implementation of the study also received support from the Health Polytechnic of the Yogyakarta Ministry of Health and the Prodia Occupational Health Institute.
The implementation of this study was coordinated with the Health Service, village government and community health centers in each location. Apart from the Pure Earth Indonesia team which consists of 3 people, the implementation of this study involved 24 doctors, 7 enumerators, 9 laboratory technicians, and 53 health cadres. Prior to the study, the team also received some training in May 2023 at the Department of Community Medicine, Faculty of Medicine – University of Indonesia. The subjects of the study consisted of 564 children aged 1 to 5 years and 153 adults, with home-based analysis that were conducted in 145 homes.
