I am a visual storyteller based in Jakarta, Indonesia.

I started my photography lessons by becoming an assistant of church and wedding documentation photographer during my college years in 2006. Then in early 2009 I worked as a stringer in the koran Tempo daily newspaper and Tempo magazine. As a weekly media photographer I was given many assignments to shoot portraits and serial photos for long reportage.

I also make several short photo story projects alongside my work as photojournalist, two of which have won the best photo story from the Indonesian Photojournalist (PFI) Award. Human rights and socio-cultural issues are my main focus, one of which is my long term project “Transito” about the life of Ahmadiya, the minority religious community in the Transito refugee camp, Lombok which I have been working on since 2011 until now.

Starting photography as a self-taught, in 2012 I had the opportunity to receive photography education from the Pannafoto Institute through the John Stanmayer photography workshop and the Permata Photojournalist Grant (PPG) mentored by several professional photographer and lecturer; Edy Purnomo, Ahmad Deny Salman, Sasa Kralj and Kadir Van Lohuizen. The final result of this Grant became one of the series in my project “Transito”, a small story about the dreams of refugee childrens.

Since 2013 I have decided to become a freelance photographer, several personal works and assignments have been published in several media, including; The New York Times, The Jakarta Post, Voice+, The Ages, Sydney Morning Herald, Refugees Transition Magazine, DestinAsian Indonesia, The Forbes Indonesia, etc. I am also experienced as a videographer while working in a production house in Jakarta during 2018-2020, a significant provision in my career as a visual storyteller.

My work has participated in several exhibitions; Jakarta Photo Summit 2010 (Merapi Volcano) at National Gallery, PFI Award 2010 (Waiting in vain at the Transjakarta Bus Stop) at GFJA, PFI Award 2012 (Transito) at Grand Indonesia, art exhibition “Bhinekka is Indonesia” 2012 (Transito) at National Gallery, Permata Photojournalist Grant 2012 (The dreams of Transito's children) at Grand Indonesia, TiFA photo exhibition “Scapegoating the Others” 2018 (Transito) at Salihara gallery and Jakarta International Photo Festival 2019 (Transito) at Galeri Cipta 2 TIM.
